Rocket League Throwdown Cup - Official Rules

Please read and understand the following terms and conditions before registering for the Throwdown Rocket League Throwdown Cup (TRLCN) brought to you by Throwdown Esports (Throwdown). By entering the Tournament you agree to be bound by these Official Rules, and represent that you satisfy all eligibility requirements contained here within.

Each person who participates in the Tournament is referred to as a “Player”. If the Player is a minor, that Player represents and warrants that he or she has received permission from his or her parent or legal guardian to register for and participate in the Tournament. Rules will be administered by the Tournament Organisers by their sole discretion. These Official Rules are subject to change, as determined by the Tournament Organizers in their sole discretion.

2.1 Weekly Format

The Weekly Tournament is a $150 Best-of-3 “Swiss Bracket” style tournament allowing teams to play a number of matches. For each Game Win, and each Series Win, a team will be awarded 1 Swiss Point. Each team will be paired with another team on a similar number of Swiss Points. Teams that have previously played each other in the tournament will not verse each other a second time, regardless of their records. At the end of the tournament, the team with the most Swiss Points is the winner. A team receiving a bye round is considered to have won their series 2 - 0, and will receive 3 points.

Placement at the end of the bracket is based off swiss points, with tiebreakers outlined in section 2.4.

2.2 Rank Points

Rank Points are awarded in the Throwdown Cup weeklies as follows:

  • 10 points for winning a game.
  • 10 points for winning a series.

Bonus Rank Points are awarded to teams that achieve top 6 as follows:
1st - 120 points | 2nd - 75 points | 3rd - 50 points
4th - 35 points | 5th - 20 points | 6th - 10 points

2.3 Finals Format

After three (3) weeks of play, the eight (8) teams with the most Rank Points will be invited to a $300 Double Elimination Finals event. Each match is Best-of-Five, except the Grand Final is a Best-of-Seven with a 1 game advantage given to the team qualifying from the upper bracket. The Finals will be broadcast on the official ThrowdownTV Twitch Channel.

2.4 Weekly Tiebreakers

If two or more teams are tied at the end of the tournament, the following tiebreaker rules apply as per the smash website:

  1. Game win percentage.
  2. Head to head results amongst all tied teams.
  3. Combined points totals of the opponents each team has versed.
  4. If no tie can be resolved, a further single elimination bracket may be played with seeding decided by the Tournament Organisers.
2.5 Monthly Tiebreakers

If two or more teams are tied at the end of three (3) weeks of Throwdown Cups, the following tiebreaker rules apply:

  1. Game win percentage.
  2. Game differential, as determined by games won minus games lost for each team.
  3. Head to head results amongst all tied teams.
  4. If no tie can be resolved, a further single elimination bracket may be played with seeding decided by the Tournament Organisers.


The Tournament is free and open to all legal residents of the Oceanic region, which includes Australia, Fiji, Indonesia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna, Norfolk Island, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu.

Individual Players must supply their own equipment (whether personal or game console), internet connectivity, and any and all permissions to access the Video Game, including a valid and legally acquired copy of the Video Game.

3.1 Platform

This tournament is open to users on PC and PlayStation platforms only. All Players must have a valid and unique Steam account or PlayStation account, in good standing, with no active bans or violation warnings in relation to the Video Game, upon registration of the Team into the TRLCN tournament.
Players are not permitted to play on Guest accounts.

3.2 Player/Team restrictions

Players who are registered as part of a roster that is qualified for “League Play” in the most recent Rocket League OCE Open Series or Rocket League OCE Championship and have participated in at least one match during the regular season (Qualifiers, League Play, or Finals) are ineligible to participate in the Throwdown Cup.


To register, please go to where you will be able to register via the smashGG registration form on the site. Specific information about you, as a Player, will be recorded for the purpose of administering and fulfilling the Tournament and emails may be used to contact players. Such information may be disclosed to third parties (including as reasonably required to do so. This information will be stored and used in accordance to Throwdown Privacy Policy as stated in Section 9.

4.1 Team Registration

Teams must have a minimum of three (3) players and a maximum of four (4) Players on their Team.

4.2 Team Name

Team names registered to the Tournament must not contain any; profanity, racism, sexism, drug use, or offensive slogan. Throwdown reserve the right to request, at their discretion, a Team name change.

4.3 Player Name

While Participating in the Monthly Final Tournament, Players must use a name as close to their name stated upon registration of their team, with the exception of a team tag. In the case of any Player not using their correct name, Throwdown staff and reserve the right to request the Player to change their username for any reason.

4.4 Entry Fees

There are no entry fees for registration or participation in the Tournament.


All Tournament participants are required to uphold, observe and respect a reasonable standard of conduct. This level of conduct is to be extended to all other Players, Teams, official Broadcasts, Throwdown, their staff, agents and representatives, partners and sponsors, and spectators. Unsportsmanlike conduct is forbidden and failure to compete in compliance with these Official Rules, may result in immediate disqualification from the Tournament and forfeiting of all potential Prizes.

  • Inappropriate behaviour includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Swearing, abusive language or threats
  • Harassment
  • Violence
  • Collusion
  • Cheating of any sort through any means
  • Exploitation of any sort through any means
  • Interfering with the operation of the Tournament
  • Intentionally delaying or slowing gameplay
  • Offering any gift or reward to a Player or Tournament Organizer for assistance designed to provide a competitive advantage to the person offering the gift
  • Offensive, vulgar, or obscene usernames, avatars or Team names
  • Sexism, ageism, racism or any other form of prejudice or bigotry
  • Engaging in any activity which is deemed by Throwdown staff to be immoral, disgraceful, or contrary to conventional standards of proper ethical behaviour.

Failure to adhere to this rule may result in disqualification and/or a ban from playing in current or future Throwdown events. Unsportsmanlike conduct will be investigated on a case-by-case basis by Throwdown staff.


The Weekly Prize is $150 AUD, split as follows:
1st = $75
2nd = $50
3rd = $25

The Finals Prize is $300 AUD, split as follows:
1st = $150
2nd = $100
3rd = $50

6.1 Prize Restrictions

Winners may be required to execute an Affidavit of Eligibility, and any additional legal documentation in regards to receiving payment. Prizes will be delivered within sixty (60) days of receiving the appropriate payment details from players. Players will be responsible for supplying correct details to Throwdown, including legal name, address, contact number, and date of birth, as required. Winners who do not supply Throwdown with the appropriate information, and/or documentation, required within ninety (90) days of Tournament completion will automatically void their Prize, and Throwdown shall have no further liability or responsibility to such Player(s) in connection with the Prizes.
Each team must nominate one person to receive the prize money, and will agree to distribute that to their teammates in a fair manner. A receipt will be provided to each team to advise that payment has been provided, and Throwdown are not responsible for any disputes that arise from these payments.


These are the “Game Play Rules” governing how the Title Game is played during the Tournament.

7.1. Match Settings
7.1.1. Game Settings

Bot Difficulty: No Bots
Mutators: None
Match Time: 5 Minutes
Joinable By: Name/Password
Platform: Steam or PS4
Server: Oceania

7.1.2. Controllers

All standard controllers, including mouse and keyboard, are legal. Macro functions (e.g. turbo buttons) are not permitted.

7.2. Match Procedures
7.2.1. Hosting and Team Colors

Teams will be instructed by SmashGG how to host the Match using the game settings in 7.1.1.

7.2.2. Re-Hosts

Between Games in a Match, Teams may request that the Match be rehosted on the same server region due to connection issues.

7.2.3. Substitutions

A (“Substitution”) is defined as changing a line-up after a Match has started. Substitutions may only occur in between Games in a Match.

7.2.4. Reporting Scores

After a Match is completed, the winning Team must submit the Match result to SmashGG. The losing Team must also confirm the Match result. Taking a screenshot of the results screen or replay of the Match is strongly recommended in case of disputed results.

If a Team disputes a Match claiming a win and submits proof of their claim, the other Team must submit proof of their claim to avoid an automatic forfeit of the Match. Any Teams or Players found to be submitting false or doctored results will be permanently banned from the Tournament and future tournaments.

7.2.5 Observers

In-game observers are not allowed except for Tournament Organizers and their designees.

7.2.6 Game start

You may only start a game once 3 players from each team are on the pitch. Failure to do so may require a game restart. Standard rules for connecting to the game and disqualification still apply as per smashGG.

7.2.7 Forfeits

Teams may forfeit from the tournament at any time. In which case they will be given losses for the rest of their matches. Forfeiting teams may take penalties to prize pool or standings as per the discretion of the Tournament Organisers.

7.3. Cheating

Any cheating, as determined by the Tournament Organizers in their sole discretion, will result in an immediate forfeiture and additional penalties depending on the severity of the infraction.

7.4. Penalties

Players or Teams who break the rules in this document are subject to penalties including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Match restart
  • Loss of Game
  • Match forfeiture
  • Temporary Player bans
  • Permanent Player bans
  • Prize forfeiture

Any penalties imposed on a Player and/or Team may be made available to the public by the Tournament Organizers in their sole discretion.


Players are permitted to broadcast their own point-of-view in matches as long as they keep in accordance with Code of Conduct terms as stated in Section 5.

External broadcasters, casters, and observers may broadcast matches with approval from the Tournament Organisers and administrators with matches provided by the administrator. Broadcasters agree to the same level of conduct outlined in Player Conduct in section 5.

Players and Broadcasters must not, through live streaming or uploading of recorded footage, allow for the misleading of viewers to believe that they are official representatives of Throwdown, Throwdown staff, or a Throwdown approved Broadcaster. The Throwdown logo, or any affiliate logos, may not be used by persons on stream without explicit prior approval from Throwdown staff.


Throwdown will not intentionally disclose any personally identifying information about any Player (including name, e-mail address, information obtained by Throwdown from cookies, and information regarding IP address) to third parties without Player consent except where Throwdown, in good faith, believes such disclosure is necessary to comply with the law, or other contractual provisions of Throwdown, or to enforce the Official Rules as stated here.

Participant’s acceptance of any prize from the Tournament constitutes consent for Throwdown’s disclosure of personal information, as required. Throwdown reserves the right to collect general demographic and other market information, which does not personally identify the participant to any person without additional consent.

Throwdown Esports utilizes e-mails to notify Players when they have won a Prize, and to let them know of special promotions, events and policy changes. Website registrants are automatically opted-in to receive all types of Throwdown Esports e-mails: promotional marketing e-mails, promotional partner e-mails, newsletters, fairness e-mails, fun (i.e. tournament- or game play- related) e-mails, and financial e-mails. Participants have the choice to opt-in, or opt-out, of receiving any, or all, of these types of e-mails at any time.

9.1 Right to Publish

Throwdown shall reserve the right to publish a statement declaring that a Team and/or Player has been penalised. Any Players, or Teams, which may be referenced in such a declaration hereby waives any right to legal action against Throwdown, or Tournament entities in connection with such an announcement, including, without limitation, causes of action for breach, defamation and/or violations of rights of privacy or publicity.


By participating in the Tournament, all Players hereby grant Throwdown, and its Tournament entities, permission to record, videotape and photograph the Player’s voice, name (including Player name, username, avatar, gamertag or equivalent), image, likeness and to use such recordings, images and information, as well as Player’s biographical information, for all purposes in connection with the Tournament, including, and without limitation, recording and exhibiting Tournament gameplay, presenting and/or otherwise displaying Tournament results on the Website, Throwdown Partner and Sponsor sites, and other online and offline destinations; recording, tabulating, presenting and/or otherwise displaying gameplay information pertaining to Player and Player’s Team’s performance.

All Player information, including images, audio recordings, database of information, bracket information, etc., made in connection with the Tournament will be owned by Throwdown, which it may use, license, transfer or assign, including to Tournament Partners, in its sole discretion. Player grants to Throwdown, and each of its designees, the right to use, edit, adapt, post, stream, copy, display, perform, transmit, broadcast, and other exploit Player images and the Player information including any names, likeness, voice, conversation, biography and any other attributes of Player’s personality and appearance, individually or with others, in whole or in part, alone or in conjunction with other material, in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity throughout the world, for the purpose of trade, advertising, promotion, or any other lawful purpose whatsoever, without additional compensation, consideration, notification or permission, except where prohibited by law.


The tournament entities make no warranties, and hereby disclaim any and all warranties, express or implied, concerning any prize (including, without limitation, the grand prize) furnished in connection with the Tournament. Without in any way limiting the generality of the foregoing and without abrogating the Throwdown policies or the end user license agreement for the Title Game or other agreements that apply to the Title Game, the tournament entities hereby disclaim all warranties and conditions, whether express, implied, statutory or otherwise, with regard to the Title Game software, equipment and the operation of the tournament, including, without limitation, all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, noninfringement, and their equivalents, under the laws of any jurisdiction.


Each player knowingly consents to participate in any or all tournament activities under his or her own free will and without duress or undue influence of any third party. By entering and/or otherwise participating in the Tournament, each player, on behalf of himself or herself and his or her heirs, hereby releases, discharges and holds the tournament entities harmless from and against any and all actual and potential, known or unknown, suspected and unsuspected claims, demands, causes of action, costs, losses, injuries, liabilities and damages of any kind or nature, including without limitation mental and/or physical injuries or death and damages to or loss of personal property, due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, to participating in the tournament, attending or participating in any tournament-related event or activity and/or the use or misuse of any prize.

The Tournament Organizers are not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information or other materials, on, associated with or utilized as part of the Throwdown Website, and the Tournament Organizers assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft, destruction, or unauthorized access to the Throwdown Website or the field of play in the Title Game. Although the Tournament Organizers attempt to ensure the integrity of the Tournament, the Tournament Organizers are not responsible for the actions of Players in connection with the Tournament, including a Player’s attempt to circumvent the Official Rules or otherwise interfere with the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Tournament. Without in any way limiting the generality of the foregoing, each Player agrees that the Tournament Entities shall not be responsible or liable for, and are hereby released from, any and all claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages of any kind, relating to any of the following:
incomplete, lost, late, misdirected or illegible registrations or the failure to receive registrations due to any cause, including without limitation human or technical problems, failures, or malfunctions of any kind, whether originating with Player, the Tournament Organizers, or otherwise, that may prevent or limit a Player’s ability to participate in the Tournament or send or receive messages requiring action or response by such Player;
any computer system, gaming console, phone line, hardware, software or program malfunctions, or other errors, failures, hacks, unauthorized access, delayed computer transmissions or network connections which may result in alteration of Game play or affect Game results; and
any problems or technical malfunction of any network or lines, servers or providers, equipment, or software, including any injury or damage to Player Equipment resulting from participation in the Tournament.


Each Player hereby agrees to indemnify and hold the Tournament Entities harmless from and against any and all third party claims, actions or proceedings of any kind and from any and all third party damages, liabilities, costs and expenses, including reasonable outside legal fees and costs (collectively, “Third Party Claims”) relating to or arising out of any breach of any of the warranties, representations, covenants, obligations or agreements of the Player under these Official Rules. Except for matters for which Player is obligated to indemnify the Tournament Entities hereunder, Throwdown will indemnify and hold each Player harmless from and against any Third Party Claims arising from production, distribution and exploitation of the Tournament.


Throwdown reserves the right to modify, suspend, extend or terminate the Tournament or any part thereof if it determines, in its sole discretion.
