Throwdown’s Premier Rocket League tournament, the OCE Championship has arrived. As the official road to the $500,000 Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS), this is the opportunity for Oceanic Players to become part of esports history.
Every Sunday, from March 4 until May 6, the best teams from the region battle for the opportunity to represent Oceania at the RLCS World Championship, and a phenomenal prize pool of $25,000 USD.
Free and available to all entrants, the Open Qualifier sees 100’s of players competing in a Best of 5, Double elimination bracket throughout the first Sunday of competition. 16 Teams qualify for the Top 16 stage in the following weeks, and become one step closer on their road to RLCS.
For the 16 teams that forged their path in the Open Qualifier, they have one more Best of 5, Double Elimination bracket to which 6 teams will proceed. They will be joined in League Play by returning RLCS teams, Chiefs ESC and Tainted Minds.
Once qualified, the top 8 teams in Oceania have the marathon play of the Round Robin League Play. 5 weeks, 28 matches, 6 proceed. At the end, the top 2 teams will qualify straight to the finals, 3rd to 6th will have another chance at the Top 6 Playoffs, and 7th and 8th will be eliminated.
The introduction of the Top 6 Playoffs in 2018 will give one last chance for teams to make the Finals. These high stakes, Best of 7 matches will have 3rd play against 4th, the winner will proceed to the finals as the third seed, while the loser will need to verse the winner of 5th vs 6th for their chance at glory.
After 8 weeks of competition, and finding themselves on top, the 4 best teams will play one last Double Elimination bracket to become the Rocket League OCE Champions, and take one of two places at the RLCS World Championship.
The journey isn’t over at the end of the Finals. The top 2 teams fly internationally to represent Oceania against the titans of North America (NA) and reigning champions from Europe (EU). A full week of bootcamping, media & photography, interviews and practice culminating in the top 10 teams in the world competing for $250,000 USD in front of thousands of live attendees.
